Sorry I am a bit late, but Happy New Year to all my ‘In The Basket’ readers. The reason for my absence? Well I have been busy trying and testing out some new products for you, so listen up if one of your resolutions for 2012 is to embark on a new skincare regime.

I was sent Nelsons Pure and Clear 3 Step Skincare System to try, and I think it’s safe to say I am a convert. The products I have tried and tested are a balancing moisturiser, purifying daily facial wipes, and anti-blemish gel. These products have no artificial fragrances or chemical skin irritants, and aim to sooth and restore your skin with ingredients such as Arnica, St John’s Wort, Lavender Oil and Aloe Vera.

Although I’d be the first to admit it, I find it hard to be consistent in my skincare routine. I wanted to religiously test these products out on my skin, and some stubborn blemishes that refused to budge, and guess what, they worked! The tingling sensation which you get with a lot of products was minimal, my skin is nice and smooth, and my stubborn blemishes have gone. The moisturiser is a good sized tube, which will last a fair while, and although not the best I’ve used, the facial wipes did their job well. The blemish gel you need to be patient with, and let dry/absorb into the skin, but all the products were effective, non-greasy, and easy to use. If you’re looking for some new skincare products this year, why not give Nelsons Pure And Clear Range a try. I’m glad I did.

Balancing Moisturiser: £8.20

Facial Wipes: £5.45

Anti-Blemish Gel: £8.20

Products are available in Boots, Holland and Barrett, and Lloyds Pharmacy. For more details and other stockists visit http://www.nelsonsnaturalworld.com/en-gb/uk/our-brands/nelsons-pure-clear/

I’ve shopped for, and reviewed all kinds of goodies this year, so I thought it was about time I compiled a top ten list of my favourites. If you’ve got your own must-haves or new discoveries, why not comment below and share them with us all.

1. Face Elixir

I’ve recently been sent my second face elixir, and it is an absolute godsend. It refreshes me when I’m tired, is a little pick-me-up when I feel stressed, and is great for when we do eventually get some warm weather. Caudalie and Qsilica both have great products.

2. Professor Layton DS Games

With all the talk (amongst men anyway) of Battlefield and Call of Duty, I thought it was time to unleash my inner geek, and share my passion for my DS, and Professor Layton games. The puzzles all take you on a journey to solve a mystery, and on the way you are confronted with lots of different types of puzzles, from number games to logic, it tests every part of your brain. I’m currently playing Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box, and in this one I’ve even got a hamster to get fit. I like the variety on these games, and the way you can save your progress and come back to them when you need a break.

3. Fingerless Gloves

Thanks to Mum for this suggestion. I quite often seem to feel the cold in my hands, especially when I’m sitting at the computer for long periods working, so a pair of fingerless gloves (which I’d never even thought of) was a great solution to that problem!

4. Cocktail Shaker Lip Balm

The winter winds are howling, which means it’s time to dig out my lip balm. This cocktail shaker lip balm from Mad Beauty is brilliant. It lasts ages once applied, and has a lovely scent. A lip balm that works is definitely an investment.

5. Haribo Sweets

I miss the pick and mix of old, when you could go round the shop and select all manner of penny sweets. It just isn’t the same anymore, but luckily we have Haribo. Their ‘kids and grown-ups love it so’ slogan is very apt! My personal favourites are the Tangfastics. I love the real fizz on these sweets, a definite treat!

These are a few of my favourite things, but what about yours? feel free to add your thoughts below!

Remember how sometimes you see young children more fascinated by the box, than by what’s inside? The simple things can often bring a lot of entertainment; such is the case with ‘In The Basket’s’ latest gift idea for Christmas.

Fatal Attraction is a game involving 2 to 3 players and a bunch of very strong little lumps of magnet. There are three different games you can try and play, each with different methods of scoring or winning. It may seem simple, but my family and I know that you need a bit of strategy, and a steady magnet placing hand to stand a chance of winning.

We all enjoyed playing the first game, which is quick and easy to play, but brings out the competitive spirit. We played quite a few times and didn’t get bored, although we all jumped a few times when a group of magnets were attracted to each other.

Game one was a great idea, but I don’t think the other two games were as well thought through. I didn’t quite understand the logic in game two, and felt that the person going first always had an advantage in game three. In this game it was also virtually impossible to get ten magnets on the board first off, without any sticking.

I didn’t enjoy playing game two or three, but this product is worth it for the first game alone. A lot of fun, it’ll be great to play at Christmas, in between opening presents, and watching the Queens Speech.

Fatal Attraction retails at £17.95. keep an eye out for it in the shops or visit www.paul-lamond.com

Normally when I’m out shopping, novelty beauty products such as soaps shaped like Christmas Trees, or flannels packaged to look like cupcakes
wouldn’t tempt me to part with any cash. But there’s always an exception to the rule, and I spent quite a while scrolling through the Mad Beauty website.

My eyes fell upon the Cocktail Lip Balms, and I’ve been lucky enough to get one of these free to review for ‘In The Basket’. Instead of
a boring lip balm tube, these products are packaged like cute little cocktail shakers, with the lip balm itself designed to smell like a cocktail. There are six different flavours in the range, from Cosmopolitan and Margarita, to Apple Martini, Pina Colada, Strawberry Daiquiri, and lastly, Tequila Sunrise. Tequila Sunrise was the one that arrived on my doormat, and I love it already. The scent is nice, but not too overpowering, the lip balm is easy to apply, and the branding is very cute. My only comment on this product is the price, which would be more than I’d normally spend on one lip balm, perhaps someone will buy me one for Christmas?

Cocktail Lip Balms retail at £3.98, and are available from http://www.madbeauty.com

With the weather heading towards ‘chilly’, ‘wet’, and ‘cold’, it seems like the perfect time to dig my Nelsons Rescue products out of my ‘basket’, and write a little review for ‘In The Basket’. My first job was to have a read of the small leaflet that was enclosed with my freebies, and
I was surprised to learn that the Bach Rescue range had been founded as early as the 1930’s. Many people will be familiar with the product ‘Rescue Remedy’, which is formed using five key flower essences, and the lip balm and cream I’ve been sent use much the same ingredients.

As free review products go, these are ideal for me, as I’m already familiar with Rescue Remedy, another product in the Bach Rescue stable. Although there’s always a tendency to rub on a good quantity of lip balm, I think a little will go a long way here. I wasn’t tempted to re-apply as soon as the balm had absorbed into my lips, and I like the slight orangey scent and the non-greasy formula.

The Rescue Cream has very little scent, which I think will appeal to a vast range of people , and can be used anywhere
on the body. I tried it on my hands and face, which felt nice and smooth afterwards. So for me, both products work, complement each other, and I’d certainly think about buying them again. Maybe I’ll put a Rescue gift set on my Christmas List.
